Portuguese photographer André Terras Alexandre grew up picturing Iceland as a mystic territory, where Viking conquests meet modernity. He finally decided to travel there in winter. Climatic conditions offered some of the most beautiful and extreme views he had ever witnessed. ‘What a December it was!’ he remembers. ‘One of the biggest snowfalls of the last decades and a trip that will remain in my memory as a complete symbiosis with nature’. The shy light of the sun, gigantic glaciers, and the lights of Christmas in Reykjavík… His pictures, taken with a film camera, enhance the cold beauty of Icelandic landscapes, between vast spaces and intimacy.
