In this new episode of “Readers Picks”, we explore the work of two French photographers. Cyrille Druart seduces us with his poetical black and white photographs, while Laly Picon takes un into her unique and colourful world.
Laly Picon
Graduate from the french Photography School EFET in 2015, Laly Picon mainly focuses on portraits. Today, she questions the construction of images while developing her own photographic approach, between creativity and freedom. These images originate from her series Monochromie. “We say that people who appear unnoticed are like wallpaper, but on these solid coloured walls, perceiving the model is even more ambiguous. The traits of femininity, an almost human appearance, that is what we can say about these creatures that appear to merge into the scenery. However, here is a curious chameleon that takes on one colour to another, one with a halo and the other the hearts. Strangeness is at the heart of this project; a strangeness that questions. Are we facing a monster that is looking to hide itself or against a woman trying to stand out?”
Cyrille Druart
“I am interested by the fragments, the remains brought by humans or left behind them, being physical or cultural.” Cyrille Druart has a particular fondness for the small details that say a lot, often where the overall picture is just a face. His objective? “Cutting, penetrating a certain truth, excluding the irrelevant“. Fascinated by geometry, he also tries architecture photography. For Cyrille, photography doesn’t just resume itself through observing, there is his camera too. “My main camera is a wonder of design and mechanics. I like to look, admire the lines, imagine it’s internal function“, admits the photographer.
