For 15 days, follow the daily life and travels of Benoît Baume, the founder of Fisheye in China discovering the photography of the Middle Kingdom. Re-experience through this first episode, the arrival in Xiamen.
The flight to Canton, then Xiamen, was relatively pleasant, although the arrival in China remained stressfull, with time flying by faster here. In this city in full evolution, I had difficulties finding the center of the festival Jimei x Arles Festival. Sam Stourdzé, the co-founder of this 3rd edition, welcomed us among the Three Shadows Photography Art Center. This area is a replica of the private center dedicated to photography in Beijing, founded by the Sino-Japonese photographers Rong Rong and INRI. Created by Sam Stourdzé and Rong Rong, the Jimei x Arles Festival welcomes 40 exhibitions, of which eight were present for the last edition of Arles. A rediscovery of Les Gorgan by Mathieu Pernot, Superfacial of Audrey Tautou, Early Works by Joël Meyerowitz, or even Iran, year 38, with 66 Iranian photographers, who’s work benefits of a presentation far more spacious than this summer. Tomorrow, we will present more exhibitions presenting mostly Chinese photographers.
