Your favourite monthly discoveries of January

Here is a focus on three of the readers’ favourite discoveries, presented last January on Fisheye’s website.

1. Nazar Furуk

Nazar Furyk goes back to his hometown, Kolomya in Ukraine, on a regular basis. There, he documents the contrasts between urban and rural spaces, and the daily life of Ukrainian youth. This series is a true homecoming, to Furyk, who trained as a photojournalist. He likes telling stories that are usually ignored, taking pictures of his friends, his ‘heroes’, in a realistic environment. Weapons, alcohol, drugs… at first glance, the world he depicts strikes us as dark.

2. Nicolas Portnoi

Ever curious, Niolas Portnoi is always at the right place at the right time. The 43 year-old Parisian photographer is fascinated by the mysteries of urban spaces. From 2015 to 2017, he strides along the streets of Paris to draw a comic portrait of the French capital.

3. Corinne Mercadier

We discovered the work of photographer Corinne Mercadier through the multidisciplinary exhibition Comme une histoire… Le Havre (Like a Story… The Havre, ed.) at the MuMA. The artist displayed there her Carré Lunaire (Lunar Square, ed.), a tryptic revealing her timeless and silent universe. If you cannot go to the Museum of Modern Art, get to know Corinne through her soft and calming words.
