Ashley Armitage: "The Girls Room"

Ashley Armitage is a 23 year old American photographer. Through her series The Girls Room, she portrays girlhood through to womanhood. Battling stigma and taboo, this photographer shows pure, natural beauty through incredibly intimate images radiating life and innocence. By using this medium, the artist takes delicate portraits of her friends in a world of teenage dreams. Ashley humanizes pure aspects of girlhood considered as ‘imperfections’ by society, politicising hair, periods and curves, through soft-toned, pastel nuanced portraits, giving a voice to women and their bodies. This series is an ode to Cyndi Lauper’s classic : Girls just want to have fun.
