“Exploring communities, cultures and identities through image”, such is the goal of Anumeha, a portrait photographer based in New York. “Besides focusing on community traditions, I love photographing people in their original clothes and environment. Music takes up an important part of my photographic process. Whenever I travel, I listen to local songs. It helps me connect”, she adds. Because on the field, she always tries to develop relationships : “If you take the time to talk to someone – even if you don’t speak the same language – a relation is created. The camera is an excellent tool to get and bring people closer”, Anumeha tells us. For her, the medium resembles meditation. “When I am walking down the street taking pictures, I am in a hyperconscious state, I don’t think about anything else.” Peacefulness and intimacy emanate from her portraits.
